    69 rear brake line armor

I just received my repro TBW brake line kit and noticed that the rear lines that go from the caliper to the trailing arm don't have armor on them where as my "original" ones do. I say "original" because I now know that the brakes had been done at one time before I bought the car so I'm not 100% sure if those lines are original or not.

So...should these lines have the armor or should they be just plain?

If they should be armored, how much? The whole length or just a portion of it?

    Thanks

    Greg,

I believe there should be some armor, just a portion of the steel line. I just recently replaced these lines on my '69, and I'm pretty sure I was replacing originals that had armor.

PS: I suggest seeing what Inline Tube has for your car...excellent products, fit well, great service.

      Greg,

I am willing to look at my early 1970, but unless yours is a late 1969 my car will not be relevant. I would suggest looking at the 1969 AIM for those brake lines to see if they changed during 1969 production. I believe the left front changed with respect to the armor, but that is another issue.

        Terry and Gregg-----

I can tell you this, for sure: the original rear brake lines (the lines which connect the rubber brake line to the caliper) on my original owner, mid-September, 1969-built car DID NOT have any spiral armor, at all. They do now because I replaced the lines with reproductions that do have the armor. So, just another example of making one's car non-original in order to make it "original". Not actually, though, in my case. I did it because the original lines needed to be replaced and the spiral armor has definite FUNCTIONAL value.

Well I just checked my ASSY manual and there is no mention of a change for this particular line.

I would tend to think that some armor, say 5" or so on the caliper end would have been correct but if Joe's never had it I'm not so sure. I'm not sure what to do now. Chew out the vendor selling me incorrect lines or praise them for being bang on!!
