Re: bring back original gloss
I like to do it by hand and doing so I use #7 from Meguiars, also you could try a 3M rubbing compound. I used it the other day on paint and it worked out really nice. also after the #7 or the 3M rubbing compound use a new product from Meguiars called Scratch X. and that should give you a real good shine with a orgianl laquer. start with a good wash and then work a section at a time by hand is the way I do it. when you use polish or rubbing compound the trick is to not use a lot of hard rubbing, start out frim and lighten up as you polish. you should use cotton other stuff will scratch. good luck

Re: bring back original gloss
3M rubbing compound could be to harsh. I painted my 70 Corvette with Dupont lacquer in 1991, after the fresh paint dried I wet sanded with different very light grades of sandpaper and used Dupont polishing compound by hand and then hand applied Meguiars #7. The Dupont polishing compound did a great job on the new lacquer paint.- Top

Re: bring back original gloss
Denny,
When I bought my original paint 71 LT-1 Steel Cities Grey car I thought the paint on the hood unsalvageable. Hoods with original paint are especially sensitive on LT-1 cars due to the hood stripes. I used the Mothers Clay Bar system and the results were outstanding. Now the hood looks like the rest of the car.- Top
