Here is one more photo from the 1969 brochure. It's a L71 so this would be a 1100882 alternator but it shows that open face same as the 884 and 925.

      Mike-----

I have an '882' manufactured on September 17, 1968 [not for sale]. It has the "open" face just as the one pictured and just as I would expect for ANY 1969 model year SI-series alternator.

It's still open to question, though, if the 5 rib "open" design replaced the 6 rib prior to the end of the 1970 model year for PRODUCTION-utilized alternators.

        Re: 5 vs. 6 ribs

I have several 5 rib cases that only have an approximately 1/4" or less rim where the "usual" 5 and 6 rib cases are wide open (almost looks like casting flash) have you ever seen anything like that?

          Hi (generic)Guys:

I started a later post on this subject, not realizing this one was in progress: I have a 69 L36 with the 1100882 alternator. The stampings LOOK original, but I am no expert and they won't photograph. There are six narrow ribs supporting the front bearing and the rear of the case looks like Mike's photo. There is also a black ink stamp near the casting/part number either "NS" or "SN". If I read this thread correctly, this 882 alternator was a tri-power alternator? My car has the C60 A/C but not the K66 T/I. Just curious about how these things get where they are? Replaced from a junk yard years ago? This car has been in my possession since 1973 so it happened before that if it didn't come from the factory...Regards Joe

Are you talking about a configuration like this?

No, it's a lot more open, ALMOST all the way to a full open like the 1969.

I've not seen any that were "between" the "open" and "closed" configurations for which I posted photos. All I've seen are the 6 rib "open", "5 rib" open, and 5 rib "closed". As I mentioned, there are 3 rib "closed" but those are DN series drive-end cases.
