I recently purchased a pair of key blanks with punch-outs for my 1970 Corvette. In the 1970-72 Judging Manual on page 37, teh picture shows that the punch-outs have numbers and letters on the punch-outs. Do I need to add these to my keys?

Yes
Bunky,
Those numbers are the code for cutting the keys. This code can be found stamped on the key tumblers or tank sticker or build sheet. There are locksmiths that advertise in Driveline that can do this. They usually want you to buy there keys so have the ones you bought cut for drivers and order stamped keys, leave the knock out with the code in for judging.

Code stamping of keys: two recommmendations
Bunky,
There are very few people who can do an acceptable job at stamping the numbers on your keys. Two that I know and trust are Pat Kraus (in Maryland) and frequent DB poster, Peter Lindahl (in New Mexico). I'm not certain of Pat's e-mail address, but Peter's is: pclindahl@comcast.net. As of 6 months ago, I know that Peter was still working on the "technology" for stamping '67 and newer keys, but he might have it down by now.

Correct fonts, height, etc.
Kevin,
Getting access to a stamp set with the correct font and size is mostly a question of desire. Stamps can be made to match any existing computer font or set of bit mapped letters/numbers scanned from a close-up image and cleaned up using programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. It's just a question of attention to detail and willingness to pay a vendor to make the stamp set. I agree that one can't necessarily purchase an off-the-shelf stamp set to match a Briggs & Stratton font, but the a set can be custom made for a price.
