Hi my name is Jerry Gollnick. I have a 1964 convertable vintage racecar. I have been doing a past owner/driver history search. The car was run in the Northeast SCCA regions in the late sixties thru 1980. Babe Headley and Sam Feinstein drove the car from the late sixties thru 1975. The car was then sold George Fitzpatric who raced it in 75 and crashed it at Pocono in the rain. It sat in a shop in Philidelphia in the fall of 75 where Ed Lowther saw it and purchased and "restored" it. Ed raced it until 1980 when he sold it to a Chuck "somebody" from Arkansas in July of 1980. The car was painted light yellow with black geometric shapes coming off the front or Nassua blue depending on the year. It had the numbers 71,78,18,and 22. Does anyone remember this car or know how to contact any of the guys I mentioned. I would really like to talk with Babe Headley. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jerry

Re: Racecar information search
Jerry, both Babe and Sam were well-known drivers. Babe had good success in Trans Am and Sam was also a top Cobra driver. I know of their racing from mostly in later model Corvettes (C3), not a 1964, I would like to check that to see what races they ran in a '64 as I don't think they were running a '64 up into the mid-70's. I believe Babe is still around, I know from an article in a Corvette magazine that one of his cars (C3) was found, restored and then the owner reunited Babe with the car on the track. Babe's car had an apple tree painted on it as once he had a severe crash when he ran off the track and into an apple tree. I have some good information from that early-mid 70's era as I own and vintage race a '69 that was one of the top B/P cars in the country at that time (and also ran Trans Am). I can help you in pointing you to the right sources for info, its a fun chase. Please email me.- Top

Re: Racecar information search
Jerry,
Interesting, I didn't know Babe's last name (Headley) until checking one of the links posted below. The initial owner of my '69 435 hp coupe visited Babe's Garage many times for service when he was racing my Corvette and retained the receipts. If you would like Babe's Garage address, whether it remains in operation or not, I'll have to get it tonight after work. Let me know either way.

Re: Racecar information search
Allan,
I have sent you email. I found two years ago, Mo Carter's 69 Trans-Am Camaro (1 of 2 cars). I helped Joe Freitas (1962 A/P Corvette Cal Club champ and Cobra driver 63-4) purchase the car. We are looking for more history on the car. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Racecar information search
I seem to recall a magazine article regarding Babe Headley (his name sticks in my mind as my uncles nickname was Babe) in the last few months. The car was a road race C3 coupe, 68-71, it was restored/replicated as Babe drove it and shown to Babe Headley in person. I thinks he is in his 60's or 70's agewise and probably still walking the earth. Good luck.
