I checked the coil in the clock (1967 mechanical clock) and it was burnt up- the last time my clock ran for about 12 hours before it stopped- what could be causing this to happen? Is there something that is burning the coil in the clock out? Alternator? battery? any ideas.

Re: 1967 clock again
Joe,
Just a few thoughts:
1. Maybe your voltage regulator is set too high in voltage. This would result in occasional cooking of your battery. The voltage can be adjusted in the original regulators, see the 67 Service Manual for your regulator type.
2. There is a short in the wiring to the coil in the clock, or your contact points in the clock stick in the coil on position. Clean the points and also check for very low voltage from the battery after it sits a while. Very low voltage could fuse the points. I think this is a very common problem with cars left in storage with the battery connected.
3. Other then the above, maybe the clock mechanism needs a good cleaning and adjustment.
Hope this helps.
