CE block ID help

Hello All,

I'm not at all familiar with CE block stampings and was wondering if someone can tell me about the stamp pad shown here. I do know that the block is a 3970010 with date casting of K29.

The stamp pad reads CE3A ???

That "CE" stamp doesn't follow the "standard" "CE" format published in the April, 1969 Chevrolet Service News, but most don't, especially those manufactured after 1970; the one in my '69 Z/28 doesn't either (CE0A965 0 9). About all you can tell from the one in the photo is that it was manufactured in 1973.

Just curious John, you say 1973, but the casting date is K29. I assume that is a 1969 casting and if so could a block cast then not of been built until 1973?

The CE block in my 70 will only loose judging points on not having the correct stamping at the front of the block where it does not show the VIN and engine ID. The block number and casting date will judge with all points.

Stranger things have been seen. I've done a lot of research on "CE" blocks, and regardless of overall stamp format, the one thing that appears to remain constant is that the third digit (the one immediately after the "CE") is the year of manufacture.
