    speedo and mechanical tach lube

What would be a good lube for the speedo and tach mechanisim? I have them both apart to the point that I can get at the rotating magnet area and thought that I should give them a little shot of something seeing as I am here anyways. The speedo always worked good but the last year or so that I drove the car the tach would stick when it was around freezing. Sometimes after driving for a bit it would come to life but not always and even then it wouldn't always return to 0 with the engine shut off so I at least want to address this issue.

I thought of using a drop or two of 5w-30 or just WD-40 but thought that the oil might be too thick and the WD-40 too thin so I'm not really sure what to use. Maybe 2cycle oil because it seems nice and thin. All us C3 guys know that those gauges don't "just pop out of there" so I want to make sure I lube them right the first time.

    Thanks.

I think I've seen that stuff around work so I might give it a try. My only concern would be how it would mix with the old lube that is still present.

Any other suggestions on lubing my speedo and tach?

        Sure...

My favorite oil for tachs and speedos is gun oil. It is formulated to not gum with age or cold.
