    L88 Registry

Is there one? I've tried all of the usual search engines.
Does anyone know if this VIN is a real '69 L88: 194379S717604
    Cp., auto, sidepipes.

    Re: L88 Registry

    George,

I had thought that all of the high performance BB cars with the CY automatic came after the strike (~VIN 21000), however I've just learned of a very low '69 VIN (12/68) L89 with automatic...weak on documentation, however.

I don't know about the car you're asking about, but if the original auto is in it, I'd be interested in learning the numbers on the stamped plate. Should be something like 69 CY 1600, if that last 4-digit number is much higher or lower, that would be questionable.

    My '69 L71 ~22700, is 69 CY 1667 I think, and a similar car/VIN in Bizzoco's book also has a similar trans number.

I thought he was keeping an L88 registry. You may also want to check with Drew Papsun. Remember, an L88 Corvette is just a corvette with added options. There are a few "oddball" issues, but anybody with the knowledge could possibly "make" a "correct" L88 from essentially ANY non-A/C car. It would be even easier to start with a 400HP or 435HP car.

Be very cautious - it's a lot of $$$, it may even be worthwhile to get somebody to fly out and look it over with you.

Does not have to even be non A/C. Know of one "recreated" that was originally a 390 hp A/C car.

Dick, did you see the L-88 clone that cleaned everyone's clock at the Pure Stock drags? It was built out of a small block car. The little gal driving it is running 11.60s. All of the Mopar and Buick guys are crying like babies. The second fastest is a 4-speed L-88 that is just a tick slower.

Her husband built it and voluntarily tore it down to quiet down all of the crying. Totally as bone-stock as an L-88 can be except for a .060 overbore.

Love to see the Bowtie kicking some butt.

            Re: L88 Registry

The '69 L88/M40 (VIN 27107) I had was CY 69 1891. If you can get the car on a lift, check the right side of the trans body for the metal tag. Should be yellow with a large 'CY' printed on it, the rest of the numbers are stamped. Also check for the VIN stamped on the left side of the case, just above the mid-point of the trans pan.

As mentioned, Drew Papsun maintains a list of the L88s he can find. Last I talked to him I think he had VINs for 14 of the 15 made.

                Thanks for the responces.
Can anyone put me in touch with Kevin McKay?
There is no pending purchase, nor can I get more info about the transmission, as I last saw this car in 1986. It came out of Houston, and was last known to be in Chicago.
There is more to the story, but that is for another time.
                Thanks again,G.

Yes, I did. The car now resides in Flagstaff, AZ with a couple of local chapter members.

The CY also has a build date, I have about 15 date/vin# on a old survey. If you suspect the date matches and need help let me know.
