Beautiful car, John! '62 is my favorite straight axle Corvette. Red/red is striking. I hope that you'll enjoy driving it.

That looks like an old NY Empire State license plate. If I still lived in NY State, I'd try to get a pair of "1964-65 NY World's Fair" plates for my '65. Trying to locate a 1965 NJ plate, since this is my "adopted" state.

      Hi Joe

Thank you. Yes that is an original 1962 license plate I bought at a swap meet. I finished my car in July and put it on the road and for the heck of it,I put it in 6 car shows,1 being all vettes and took 5 first place trophy's and a chairmans award.I am very proud of the work I done, since this was a BASKET CASE when I started the restoration.

      Take care....John

        Route 66

I recall now that we discussed a trip across old Route 66. How do you think these 2 beauties, and others would look during that trip!

Thats a great looking car Joe.

I am still planning the trip. I'm gathering maps and info on places to stop and things to do. I't would be great to get a few other corvettes to go along on the trip.

          Take care....John

              Hi Mark

I went with the cragar ss cause I love them. They make the car look tougher. Someday i'll buy the original hubcaps and tires. These rims are 15x6. I don't remember off hand the size of the tires but the tread width is alittle wider in the rear.Except for the wheels, everything else is original.

                Re: Route 66

So much of the old route is marked with Historic Route 66 signs that it is as easy to follow as any other marked route today.

Now if you want to get off the beaten path, there are several alignments of the road over the years. Not all are marked.

The time to go is now, not in a year or 5 or whatever. When I ran down it in Illinois in 2005 coming back from Bloomington Gold, I found several places gone. The original Bloomington Gold site at the fairgrounds is now a bunch of stores. The original Steak N Shake in Normal is gone. Growth and expansion is filling in, and requiring repaving (and widening) in many areas.

                It ain't the same.

When we restoring my girlfriend's '69 Z28 we considered the Crager SS - the term I use is "Period Correct" versus "Factory Correct". She chose the factory wheels with BFG's.

I had a set of Crager "Screamers" on my '71 Camaro - loved them - I can only remember seeing one other car with those wheels. Wish I had kept them!

                    Hi Mike

I ordered some maps that are supposed to show all those old back roads and a book of interesting places and things to do along the way. I'm planning on going in the spring of 2007 hopefully.Depends on getting the time off from work.

                      Joe/John/Mike,

The Northeast leg of the National Road Tour took a Route 66 trip which suprisely had several of the images reflected in the movie "Cars" I know you might think of this as a kids movie, but if you are planning a Route 66 trip, save your photos and see the movie to pick up the similar landmarks. For example the Cone Motel is really the Tee Pee Motel. Enjoy your trip, I am trying to convenience the Northeast Road Tour to use the same path for the San Jose National coming up in three years.

Where are you leaving from? How far along 66 are you planning on going? Keep us informed, you may get some people to tag along part or all the way with you.
Also where are you ordering these maps from?

                          Hi Terry

                          Go to Historic66.com
I believe it was the link that said The Mother Road I clicked on. At the Top of the page it said maps. You have to buy them. There are 8 maps. Click on that. It will also show you books that are good to have. I'm leaving from Niagara Falls, NY. I'm going to pick up Route 66 at the begining which is now Interstate 55 in Chicago. I was told it does not say Route 66 for awhile in some states cause they changed the route number. I'm planning on going this spring or summer. It all depends on when I can get the time off. And I plan on taking Route 66 all the way from Chicago to L.A. I will let everyone know when I leave so if they want to go also. I plan on stopping at as many of the interesting places as I can.

                          Bye...John

                            Hi Denise

I saw that movie Cars.I believe that movie is geared more toward the adults. LOL. It was really neat and that also inspired me to want to go on the trip. I plan on taking my camera.

                              Dennis,

I spoke to Bill Sangrey (National Road Tour Chairman) about exactly the same thing, this past August. He is agreeable to the idea, but needs input. It is doable, but will be, obviously, difficult to coordinate. The trip from Chicago to Santa Monica is about 1500 miles. 300 miles/day travel is optimal, which requires at least 5 travel days. Let me know if you'd like to get involved.
