1967 Engine and Compartment ,CORRECT restoration

Many thanks to all who responded with excellent insight and direction. This is the most active discussion board on the planet.

I have taken the documentation photographs and will proceed with a minor disassembly of the engine compartment, a thorough but careful Simple Green cleaning and repaint only the necessary items.

I will post a before and after when complete.

For those interested ,It is a St Louis body and the I.D. tag does not have a green checkmark.

Before Photos of C2 300HP ,As requested

I have posted a photograph of my 1967 300Hp engine compartment.I have many others that I can post if necessary.

The following questions come to mind now that I've started this project.

What finishes should be on the following items.

Hood Retain latches on firewall,the firewall itself,Hood prop and the fitting on the hood,lower alternator support arm ,mine is engine orange? should I paint the fiberglass fan shroud.Are the brake lines on the frame painted black?

Female hood latches and male hood pins are zinc plated. The springs on the female latches are semi flat black. The spring on the male hood pins are gloss black. There will be black overspray on the female latches for STL and no blackout on AOS cars. Alternator bracket is semi flat black. Brake lines are unpainted tin plated steel.

There is a lot of great information in the judging guide regarding finishes, so that will be a great resource for your project.

The lower alternator bracket on a '67 is engine orange - it was installed at Flint Engine, not at St. Louis. The UPPER alternator adjusting bracket is semi-gloss black.

Looking at your picture,

The oil fill tube should be black, I believe semi-gloss.

The thermostat housing - engine color.

The hood brace is zinc plated finish, as well as the horn relay.

On the radiator and blacked out areas you might just try a washing with Simple Green first. On the zinc plated and bare metal parts, just try simple green or other degreaser with steel wool. You would be surprised how well the engine compartment oil vapors and coatings preserve the finish on these parts.
Once finished, coat with WD40 or Triflo for protection.

Also, you ought to ask John Hinckley for pictures of his engine compartment. Same engine but perfecto. I used his pictures for the goal of mine, but I'm not quite there yet.

Good catch on the alternator bracket, John. I had earlier C2 on the brain.
