    Re: Who does good plating?

Here are some additional pics that might be helpful. The 63-69 cap is a zinc plated vented cap.

The 1970 cap is a zinc plated sealed cap.

The 71-74 cap is a zinc dichromate sealed cap. Since the 1970 cap would be functionally interchangeable with the later sealed cap, it is very possible the early version found it's way on some 71 cars. Also, every 71-74 style cap that I have seen has been zinc dichromate; I've never seen one of these later sealed caps that was just zinc plated.

One additional note. I've restored quite a few of these gas caps, and the original plating has always been zinc. I seriously doubt that any were cad plated.

My very late '71, 7,000 mile BowTie car has the cap with scalloped edge, zinc-only plating. Also has the red metal warning label. Never lost a Flight point.

My two '71's also have the scalloped cap with the red metal warning label. Vins are 12639 & 15065.
