    ACC Carpet Fit

    Happy Turkey Day,

Last year I purchased an ACC carpet set for my 66 Convertible. While installing the molded wheel well sections, I found that they do not fit properly around the luggage stop and storage compartment, as if the carpet mold was larger than the actual fit. I fear I am going to have to use a carpet knife to make it fit, which means cutting off the bound edges in the luggage compartment area. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, regarding the front carpet set, the plastic backing on this carpet does not allow it to fold over the luggage stop very easily. Should the carpet be glued all the way down to the storage compartment lid? And if so, how snuggly does it follow the sheet metal bends of the luggage stop?

I do not have a good feeling about ACC plastic-backed carpet.

    Mark,,,
------You have hit on a sore subject for me. The original divider carpet as installed at the factory was not plastic backed. Therefore it would conform to the divider much better. Apparently no molded carpet company is willing to take the extra step of delivering that piece without the backing. This piece can be made to fit a bit better with judicious use of a heat gun on the plastic side and plenty of 80/80 3M spray glue. Try to practice on something with the heat gun before you go at the divider piece. It will help you understand what the heat gun can do. The carpet does go all the way down. When your board goes in it should sit on the carpet all the way around the circumfrence.
------As far as the rear pieces go I dont know what to tell you, short of switching carpet suppliers. I last used Al Ks carpet sets and while the rest of the set was good those two pieces were only fair. I agree,,,They dont fit worth a darn.
------I did see a set of "Mid-Americas" carpets installed not long ago and they looked excellent. The guy who did the installation said the pieces fit well. When I asked Mike he said they were molding thier own carpets not buying from someone else. Hope this helps.........Bill S

      Re: ACC Carpet Fit

I purchased a set of ACC carpet (67 Coupe) thru another vendor and found the same thing. The wheel well pieces are too large. Also the piece that goes on the rear floor was too wide and too long or possibly the result of the poor fit of the wheel wells.

The pieces are too stiff with the excessive plastic coating on the back.

I then purchased a set from Al Knoch and the rear flat carpet is made out of 3 pieces and spliced together... I'm not a happy camper!!!!!
