Are the judges making point deductions for the different shades of oranges on the C-1 engines? Thanks, Jimmy

Re: C-1 Engine Orange
So are the '55 V8s. When I sent my block out for machine work, I asked them not to paint it at all. Out of habit, they sprayed it Chevy orange. I had ordered 3 cans of correct red to paint it myself. No big deal, I just painted over the shop color... I get a lot of comments on how my motor is not the right color...- Top

My '55 was orange
for over 30 years for that reason, it was built around 1970 by one of the best engine shops in NJ, but they painted it orange out of habit. When I investigated this a few years ago, a couple of area 55-56-57 Chevy outfits actually told me 55s were orange, 56 were red, and 57 were orange again! Roy Braatz, Ken Kayser, and Noland Adams soon set me straight! Of course, at local shows, cruise night, etc., a lotta folks think it's unnatural to see a red Chevy engine.

I had a note from
Noland Adams at that time, "There were a few 265s in 1957 passenger cars. Apparently for identification, they were painted chartreuse. Really. I knew a couple of guys whose engines had this green/yellow engine color."
Standing on the left side of my car with the hood open, you'll see a red and chrome engine in a black compartment, next to a green steering column, surrounded by bright yellow exterior.
Noland also pointed out the switch to orange from red was during the 57 model year, so there should be some red 57's around. I wonder how people would react to a red 57 fuelie engine?- Top
