Re: Corvette unrelated question 4 mustang guys...
Wow, a Mustang question on a Corvette site I think I can answer. If memory serves me, GT-350H Shelby Mustangs delivered to Hertz were one of 4 colors, red with gold stripes, white with gold stripes, blue with gold stripes and black with gold stripes. I believe that's correct, but I'll double-check my years of blue oval archives when I get home tonight.- Top

Re: Corvette unrelated question 4 mustang guys...
Rob,
I went on a recent trip to Fla and needed to rent a car in Orlando. Went to the local Hertz place and there were six black with gold stripe GT-350H waiting. I quickly changed my reservation from a compact to the GT! I thought (and maybe incorrectly) that there were 500 made specially for Hertz and all were black with gold stripes.
The one I got had about 2800 miles on it and judging from the sounds coming from the rear, they were 2800 hard miles. It did have some get up and go and handled well. Too bad it was an automatic. (oh yeah, they point out when you rent it that the traction control is locked on, no smoking the tires!)
Too bad they didn't have any C6's to rent, I would have walked right by the GT!

Re: White with Blue Stripes 350H - rented in 1966
All the articles I have read on these cars indicated Hertz stipulated that all be black with gold stripes when they agreed to purchase them. I was asking because I was watching one on Ebay, black now, but the owner says it was ORIGINALLY green from the factory. Thanks for the responses...I'll do some research. Sounds like you have first hand information...nothing better than that.- Top

Gary-----
I recall that all regular GT-350's were white with blue stripes. I don't recall ever seeing a Hertz GT-350H that was white. Are you sure it was a GT-350H and not just a regular GT-350 that got into the rental fleet somehow?
Beyond that, it is my understanding that the reason for the current black with gold stripe versions, the only way they are currently built, is to "re-create" the 1966 offering, at least with respect to color scheme. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Corvette unrelated question 4 mustang guys...
No all five colors were manufactured as GT-350H models. The colors were "Candy Apple red", "Guardsman" blue, "Ivy" green, "Raven" black, and "Wimbeldon" white.
Here's a quote from the Shelby-American Guide: "Most Hertz cars were black and gold, but 'H' models were produced in all five 1966 Shelby colors."1967 L71 Silver/Black Coupe - Unrestored/Original Paint, Top Flight at 1998 Regional in Ontario, not judged since

A little research turned up the answer. The car you had was one of 50 built, early in the production run for the GT-350H. There were 50 each built with white, red, blue and green exterior. The other 800 cars were black with gold stripes. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Corvette unrelated question 4 mustang guys...
We all have stories of "the one I should've bought"....I found one a couple of years ago with original paint, glovebox signed by Shelby, etc. here in California......unfortunately my '67 vette was in pieces all over the garage(the entire 3-car garage)...so I reluctantly passed on it.- Top

Mark is quite
right, and I am a "Mustang Guy". Hertz specified black/gold, but they needed more cars. The gold stripe was easy to add, because the regular GT350 did not come with stripes. The "LeMans" stripe was a rare factory option, but since the racing team used them, many were dealer-applied. Now everybody uses them, I can't remember the last time I saw a 65-67 Shelby without them. The gold stripe was an odd mix of clear and bronze powder.- Top

Re: Corvette unrelated question 4 mustang guys...
At a small car show here in Canon City Colo. 3 years ago. Saw a Org. owner Green 67 GT350 Shelby, for 38K. Money was tight passed on it. Shrewd move on my part. But back in H.S. picked up Kelly for date back in Nov of 68. She turned to me and said" Wanna take my Moms Car?" "Your moms car" I thought as I'm driving the family 62 F-85 Olds wagon. Alright I'll bite. Moms car was a 65 GT-350 Shelby. More war stories from a 17 yr old kid at the time. We took it, Kelly later married a friend of mine, Passed by her moms house mid-80's The Shelby was still there. Love those cars but who can afford em now. When Carroll passes they'll really go thru the roof.- Top
