67 SB dipstick tube help !!

OK, I've got the lower dipstick tube in place, and it's sitting flush with the block. Now, how do I get the upper tube in? Is the lower tube supposed to be recessed inside the block? Perhaps someone knows the date of a previous post I can reference? Thanks!

How do I get lower tube into block?

I found an archive article that said the lower tube should be recessed about an inch. How do I get it that far in to the block? The (new Long Island Corvette Supply) tube has a lip at the top, and I barely got it so it is even with the block. Was I supposed to grind off part of the lip so it slid in easier? I don't even know if I can get it out now :-(

      Sorry, false alarm

I managed to drive the lower tube into the block.... once I removed the master cylinder and shielding (duh...) to gain some clearance to work. thanks anyway and have a great evening!
