What 427 block was used for the L-88 in '69?

    Hi all !

I have a fast question for the big block crowd ( yes - again ).

I recently heard that all of the '69 L-88's used either the 3935439 or the
3955270 block, but not the 3963512 block. Is there any thruth to this statement?

I had suspected that L-88's ran the length of the '69 production year, and as such
would have used all three of these 427 castings. I believe the '512 block was
a mid-year introduction and as such might have been precluded from L-88 production.
I know that the '512 block was used in the COPO Camaro & Chevelle
programs and well as Yenko, Harrell, etc......

Can anyone tell me if the '512 block was used in factory L-88 production?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,

I would email this inquiry to Drew Papsun. He keeps information on all the SHP big blocks. I would imagine he has information on the casting #'s of these cars that are known.

The 4 bolt 512 blocks started appearing in production Vettes about mid-late December , 1968 from the surveys we have taken. There were more 512's used in L/88's than the other numbers Use of 439 blocks ended late Dec. '68 and 270's ended mid Jan. '69.

This data and much more is in the 1968 1969 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide that is available at the online NCRS store on this site.

        My mid-August built '69 L88 used the 512 block.
