Your copy of the AIM is more current than mine. I see clearly now what you are talking about. My car is in winter storage at the moment but I was just working in this area before I put my car away and I do not recall seeing anything like these guides. It sure would be nice to take the console plate off again right now to check. It will have to wait until spring.

I actually impressed myself! 350x350 pixels works better than what ever that first couple pictures I posted. Anyway, you can see the guides. I circled them. I would like to know what they looked like. Terry

I am looking at my assembly manual and page E5 in UPS 1 has no such part number and does not show the guides you are referring to.
I'm lost.
When I had my 68 console apart, the only guides were on the sliding door for the ashtray.

Kurt, check out my picture that I posted at the bottom of the thread. Make sure you find the right one, I posted several before I got it right. I circled the guides.

I've got these in my '69! small black plastic guides in an L shape the lenght of the slide...

PS they are a pain because they keep falling out when you want to put it all together...

Any chance you can describe them better. The picture in the assembly manual makes them look like they wrap around the steel in the opening of the vent control mechanism. I suspect there where several of these in place but like to fall out over time or when people worked on there cars. Then, people probably never identified them for there perpose or where they belonged.

Were they plastic or teflon? Rigid plastic or sort of flexable?

Hi Terry,

They are of some sort of rigid black plastic, and the L shape is appr. 5mm each side (0.2"). They have the same length as the slide holes.

Interesting. Sounds like they should have glued them in place. I am going to try and find some Another needle in a hay stack! Hen's teeth!
