use of deck plates for factory honing

we were posting if deckplates were used at the factory during the honing process. i do not know about other car companies engines but GMs LS series engines have the tapped holes for the head bolts isolated from the cylinder bore walls as they are fixed to the external wall casting with a open space between them and the cylinder walls. this way the torquing of the bolts puts not stress into the cylinder walls to cause distortion like the standard SB and BBC.

Re: use of deck plates for factory honing

Thanks for the info, Clem...I guess out-of-roundness from torqueing is not the problem. A few engines that have the problem probably won't stimulate GM to spend a lot of money to fix it, but solving this mystery sounds like something a gearhead engineer would love to get his teeth into.
