Re: Who remembers June of 1967?

In about March of 67...I went new car shopping and a 67 marina blue coupe was at the top of the list. Unfortunately...my earning potential didn't match what it would have cost me per month and I ended up buying a brand new marina blue 67 Chevy II 327/275. Two months later...it had a 327/350 crate motor and I was off racing.

A buddy of mine waited and ended up with either a 68 or 69 big block, yellow convertible. It was great riding around with the top down. So that was my summer of 67...fast cars, drag racing on Manheim Road right outside of O'Hare Airport.

Re: 67 vettes were a tought sell because the

Good question, Mike. I'm going to meet the original owner of my green/black two top roadster when I bring the car to Chicago for Vettefest next week. It is a very late '67 that he ordered and picked up in July of '67. He essentially was buying an outdated car at the time and I wonder if he thought of it that way or if he just loved that style. Green was very popular at the time, the most popular color in '67. He ordered a 400 horse with M21 and a 3.08 gear. I've discussed this with him, he said he'd race anyone from an 80 MPH running start. It is a very unusual combination to get used to.

At that point I still had a Glen Green/white interior '65 Corvette L-79 coupe I had bought new in '65, and had just bought a '67 Impala SS427 (L-72 4-speed) out of the Chevrolet Engineering 3,000-mile fleet - one more of many cars I wish I still had today. It looked exactly like the photo below, but was an SS427.

          John..I had a green 67 Caprice..it had great lines..and I too wish I still had it.

My dad had a 67 Buick Wildcat..that was a great looking car!

Wasn't it great back when you could recognize the new models each year.

I remember when I came home from Army Basic Training and my Dad had bought a 65 Mustang convert, dark green/tan interior and I thought that was a great color combo. I was discharged on June 10,1967 and had ordered a 67 Mustang red/red 390 convert several months before. My Dad took me from the airport to the dealer on W.Grand Blvd in Detroit and I picked up the car still in my Class A's. I remember green cars as being very popular in the late 60's. I own a Goodwood green roadster today and still like the color. I only wish I had a saddle interior rather than black. I have great memories of June of 67!!

              In June of 1967

you could buy almost any new passenger car off the floor for $2500-$3000. The Corvettes a little more, $4000-$5000 depending upon the options. Those were the days.

I was in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1970 and in Vietman 1966 and 1967. Too many of my friends are on the Vietnam Wall, so I do not go there. These are times I do not want to remember.

                    Re: In June of 1967

I have many vivid memories of 1967 ... the 'Vettes and other Chevrolet cars ... the music ... the lifestyle. Not only 1967 ... but also from all of those C2 years.

I remember buying two '67 'Vette BB's back then ... they were a huge disappointment because both of them were fraught with many problems ... the dam things were simply not reliable.

When 1968 rolled-around, the '67 Vettes were worth nothing ... ya couldn't even give them away ... I just kept them for a better day sometime.

My 'rides' in '67 were a '65 Chevelle SS 396, a '66 Caprice 396 and a '67 El Camino BB. All three cars were strong performers with sufficient room to haul all of my music-making guitars and amplifiers across the good ol' US of A.

Even though they were great 'chickie' cars, they never had the 'magic' offered by any 'Vette.

Not being put off with those '67 'Vettes, I purchased a '68 427/435 Coupe. My gawd, that car was a true joy ... went like a 'mashed cat' ... it went through gasoline like no other car I had driven up to then ... it passed every thing on the highways except gas stations.

Of all of those cars, the only one with Green Paint was the '68 'Vette. The '65 Chevelle was Yellow, the '66 Caprice was Yellow and the El Camino was some sort of Buzzard Barf Blue.

Yes, those were wonderful years ... way back then in the good old days that do not seem to have been that long ago. Sigh ...

But 16 months later, it was the 67 I presently have. And I was up to 150# by then. Those were great times.

Also loved my 70 El Camino SS, still have an 82 El Camino but a 6.
