Lyle, Jorjorian sent me the results of an ebay deal of a life time. Set of 4 exhaust pipe to manifold nuts for only $471.00. Not referring to anyonw in particular but makes you wonder what kind of pills are being popped now adays. The repro nuts are about $7.00 and fairly close to the originals. But even if they were night and day apart I don't think man has created 4 nuts (for a car) that were worth over $100.00 bucks a piece. My '63 has the original nuts on it thanks to my close buddy RJ but I could have put brass nuts on the car as judges can't even seen them since the cars are not on a lift. How about the guy who paid almost $500.00 for an oil pump that is readily available for peanuts. And did you see the price of the '158 fender flags for 63 to 65?? Buyer had to be wacko for sure. Guess lots of money in our hobby for the select few. John

I love ebay. A few years ago I installed an NOS suction throttle valve on a customers 66. Just for a grin I listed the empty box on Ebay and sold it for $25.00.

Some of us can.
And, some of us know to reach up from below or down from above to check their shape.

But even for a point, it's a huge price to pay $471. 4500 points x $471 each makes the car worth... $2,119,500. I can think of very few Corvettes that fit this price bracket.

Patrick, Didn't mean to discredit our fine judges. I am one of them sometimes. A lot of the stuff we get so excited about and pay major bucks for is as you said is only one point. But it is nice to forget about the points all together and just have a nice car with the correct parts providing that you don't have to go to the bank to borrow major bucks for a small handfull of bolts and nuts. It's more fun to hit the junk yards and flea markets looking for bolts for peanuts in some obscure box. Also it pays to have good friends like I do who were quite generous with me when I asked for that special hard to find hardware. Got most of it for free. Jorjorian gave me a set of the exhaut manifold nuts for my 63 for free. Know he must have flipped though when he saw what some rich guy paid for them on ebay. Don't blame him. Again a good judge given the time will spot just about everything. Trouble is lately the shows are so big the judges don't have time to do all they would like for fear that a certain team leader who wears shorts all the time and is from the south will jump up and down hollering cause you are spending too much time on one car. Can't remember his name though. Just as well. Like to have a Duntov some day but will probably just have to settle on the cam instead. John

Joe, Prices on the B&H bolts for the '57-58 FI fuel filter to bracket are out of sight. At the Auburn regional this past summer I know someone paid $350.00 a pair. I thought the going price for an original pair was about $250.00. There is a good cheater bolt though. In the 60's Chev used a 5/16" course thread recessed hex head bolt with a captured split lock washer to hold the oil pan on in the four corners. B&H with a circle around it. No grade marks. The problem is that FI bolt is fine thread. SO take a NF die and run it over the threads. Not good craftsmanship but it will work. Most guys won't spot the minute difference to the logo which is this. The circle that goes around the B&H is a tad futher away from the letters. Better than paying arm and leg for two bolts.
20 years ago I can remember my friend Pronesti telling me those bolts were worth $50.00 each. Spent a lot of time going thru buckets of bolts over the years looking for them. Don't have any extras anymore. There is another application for these original bolts from GM. Heard long time ago but forgot. Maybe Dr. Mike knows this "secret". John

source of correct B&H fine threaded bolts is nearly as scarce as the FI filter----c-1 HD Brake backing plate covers. good luck boys. mikie
