C3 79 urethane bumper fitting problem

Hi,

I would like to ask a question on fitting the new urethane bumper that I received. It seems to fit rather thight over the bumper bar and cushion. That means that it is difficult to make it touch the hood surround and fender. As far as I can tell the bumperbar and cushion is a little to far out to the front. I did fit the bar as per workshop manual instructions and dimensions.

Can I just leave the shim between the bar and front structure out and try to get the bar closer to the hood surround and make the cover fit better this way ?

Yes, you can leave the shims out. The manual shows them but they are an "as needed" item. Just make sure everything is tight and there aren't any gaps between the bumper and the mounting surface.
