I recently came accross a 3756519 283 block with casting date of L88. If I'm not mistaken that means 12-8-1958. The front pad reads FI2098 no suffix code. Does this means the engine was assembled on 12-09-1958. I find it hard to belive that it was cast and machined and assembled in a 24 hour period. Tell me I'm doing something wrong. And not haveing e suffix code, what does that mean. Thanks for the help, John.

Bill Clupper posted this response on a similar subject this week.
"In occasional circumstances of chance, same day is possible and has been documented. Blocks were trucked from saginaw to Flint (about 35 miles) all day and night, and inventory management was practiced only to the extent of having "enough" to keep the lines running at Flint, without regard for stock rotation."Tom Hendricks
