Re: Shelby Aluminum Heads
A few years ago I visited a machine shop in Harbor City, CA and watched an aluminum FE block being machined on a multiaxis NC machining center. It took a few hours to complete a block with a couple of setup changes. An acquaintence of mine does NC programming for them, and I called on the company back in the eighties when I was in the CAD/CAM sales business. IIRC the name is Hanson Engineering.
I also recall that the blocks were cast in a Southern California foundry east of LA, but don't recall the name.

Engine machine
Duke
I talked to the guy at the shop who supervises the 10 man operation and he also said the blocks were cast there in southern California..but the city name escapes me.
Below is a picture of one of the machines they use at the shop. It shows the end side of a about a 30' long machine.
This shop is in Torrance.

Re: Engine machine
Harbor City is next to Torrance, and some companies can have a mailing address in Torrance, but actually be physically located in Harbor City or vice versa. The Post office doesn't always follow city boundaries.
Looks like the setup I saw.
Is the company's name Hanson Engineering???
Wish I had known about this event. I don't live that far away.

Re: Engine machine
I wish I would have known, too. A friend of mine, Mike Digera, used to work for Shelby building and dyno testing the engines.
I would have loved to have seen the cars.
Harbor City is actually an area of the vast city of Los Angeles and not an actual city itself. Buy some property there and see where building permits are issued! This area shares one of the Torrance Zip Codes which ads to the confusion.
The City of Los Angeles connects to San Pedro and Wilmington through the Harbor City and Harbor Gateway areas so the City of Los Angeles has a port.
FYI for those who care...Van Nuys, Reseda, Sherman Oaks, Northridge, Studio City, Chatsworth, Woodland Hills, North Hollywood, Sunland, Encino, Hollywood, Venice, Harbor City, San Pedro, Wilmington, Terminal Island, Harbor Gateway and numerous other "cities" are not cities at all, just areas within the city limits of the City of Los Angeles. many people don't know that and will argue with you until the cows come home.

Re: Engine machine
I had a suspicion that Harbor City was LA, but wasn't sure. Most of the time driving around So Cal I don't know WHAT "city" I'm in, and I've lived here for nearly 35 years.
Add high-zoot Pacific Palisades to the list of "cities" that are really part of LA.
