1963 Seat Belt Buckles

Has anyone restored the aluminum paddle of a 1963 seat belt. My belt buckles were corroded and after cleaning show pitting.

If the pitting is very light, remove the paddles and sand the entire surface so as to level the material and remove the pits. Use 120, 240 and 400 grit paper then buff.

If pitting is severe, you are SOL.

YEARS ago, in another life, we used to get passenger car paddles, and use a bench mounted belt sander to sand them down flat to remove the "debossed" area where the center emblem went on the passenger car.

LOTS of them still around, I guess. They always passed judging. You can sand a fair amount off. Nothing to lose. Chuck
