    C2 Lower Rear Exhaust Panel

I'm replacing my lower rear exhaust panel (under car version) with the side exhaust version. Sounds easy enough, but I have noticed an interesting difference. On the under car version that I am taking off, which I am 99% sure is original,I see that there are 2 holes on each side of the panel at the lower area that bolts to a rear quarter panel bonding strip. One hole is slightly larger than the other. Hole sizes and locations are identicle from side to side. However, on the new repro side exhaust panel I see only one hole per side. None of the holes on my original panel looked drilled so I assume that there should be 2 per side. Is this yet just another difference between original and repro. Should the originals have 2 holes per side.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Re: C2 Lower Rear Exhaust Panel One Hole

I'm not so sure those 4 holes are not original. I have two holes on each side of the body on my 65, just as was described. I obtained an original exhaust panel off of ebay and it had 2 corresponding holes on each side as well. All four holes line up perfectly when installed, and that's a staggering coincidence since the exhaust panel came from a different car. If this isn't the case with other cars, perhaps this is another difference between AOS and STL? This should be easy to check, so perhaps we can do a quick survey and see what others have as well.

        Don,

That should be a moot point, as no AOS cars, as of yet, have been authenticated as original sidepipe cars.

          PS

That is........if you were talking about a sidepipe rear valence panel with 4 holes!

Boy, some interseting replys so far. I need to get under there again and check the body side as I thought that even though the panel had 2 holes per side, the mounting strip only had one per side and thus only one bolt was used per side. It has been 2 years since I took them apart so my memory may be a little fogging on whether there were one or bolts per side.

Phil, it sounds like your body strip also had 2 holes in it as you said " all 4 holes lined up". Could you actually get two bolts in per side.

Re: C2 Lower Rear Exhaust Panel One Hole

                Joe,

My 65 is an AOS car and does not have side exhaust. The exhaust panel is for standard exhaust as well. Both have the 4 hole configuration just as Bob described, and the holes line up perfectly. My car is a Mid-may 65, and the exhaust panel came from an early 65 car. Not sure if the early 65 car was AOS or STL.

Mar 64 car with N11, off road exhaust, St Louis build. It has 2 holes per side that line up, however never had any more than 1 bolt on each side. Also notice that the holes on the body support rib are different sizes, while the panel has all four the same size.

Re: C2 2 Holes per Side

Thanks for the additional info Alan. Sounds like 2 holes per side in the panel is the correct configuration. My only issue left to resolve is the number of holes in the body support rib, i.e. rear quarter mounting area. Mine only has one hole per side. I know the fenders are original so the area I need to check is whether that mounting strip is original or not. I'm pretty sure that it is though. Again, your bonding/mounting strip also has 2 holes in it? Is that correct?

                    Thanks for the help.

                    Bob
