    Value of old Drivelines

Like most of us I tend to save anything and everything, especially as it relates to Corvettes. I am trying to be more reasonable as I mature and one thing that would seem to have little or no value is the large box of old Drivelines that I have. They go back several years, but I have not dug down to the bottom to see what might be the earliest issue. I am about to discard this collection but I would be interested if anyone can see any significant value in hanging on to them. From my membership number it is clear that I have been around for awhile and it is too depressing to revisit old prices that prevailed when I first joined NCRS.

I used to save them, too. However, I decided some time ago that I would only maintain them for about 3 years, maximum. So, I discarded the older issues and started further discard as I receive new ones. I really don't see much value in older issues from an "informational" perspective. They may have some "historical" interest and value, but not as it relates to anything technical in nature.

Drivelines are a window to the past and can be very important..for documentation.

I was recently asked to find an ad run many years ago that listed a friends original 1957 FI engine. The ad was run by one of our more famous members and included the stamp pad #.

Within minutes I was able to locate the ad and send a copy to the owner of the car. This particular car will easliy be a $500,000 car when the restoration is done..and the paper trail including the driveline ad will be there.

I can understand Lucia's point and maybe one cannot save everything especially as we downsize in our later years.. I would suggest if you personnaly no longer want these drivelines..that you either offer them for sale in a driveline ad, or maybe donate them to your local chapter or a fellow member that has the same enthusiasm we all once had.

But I would hate to see them thrown away.

PS..last year I bought some old Vintage Corvette Club newsletters and they were great reading..especially learning about the cars that Ed Theibaud sold over the years ( owner of 1953 #3 ). Then just last week..I talked to Ed for the first time ( I didn't realize he was still kicking..sorry Ed ) and we had a great conversation.

      Kindest Regards,

      Joe T

Personally, it's not worth much unless your a seller and want to track your ads.

        Dump em.

          Re: Sorry but

Last year I threw 20+ years worth of Driveline's into the recycle bin. I can't see any value in old ones. Now I only keep the last couple issues. The Corvette Restorer is a different story. I keep all of them.

            Re: Sorry but

I dump them but as Joe #930 pointed out - as soon as you do, you will probably find a reason why you should have kept them - That is Murphy's Law.

So here we have another opportunity for improvment

I too am quilty of pitching the old copies of the Driveline. However, I do see merit Joe T's suggestion regarding documentation. I know of at least one occasion when a member researched and found a long past add for an "all original" small block 67 that was being currently being offered as a "all original" big block car.

Maybe we need an electronic collection of all past Driveline ads on CD that is searchable by VIN or part description.

Sure would save storage space for those who keep this stuff.

Get your nickels and dimes out! At the 2007 National Convention in Marlboro, there will be a COMPLETEset of Drivelines and Restorer magazines available at auction. Volume 1 #1 through present of each, plus the original mimeographed for sale inserts that went into the early issues of the Restorer before the inception of the Driveline

I do not know. I just have been told that there will be a set to be auctioned off
