How tight is the fan clutch hub mounting supposed to be where the water pump shaft enters the hub?

There should be some interference fit to insure the clutch hub is centered on the shaft.....but it should easily pull onto the shaft with the mounting bolts

Thanks for the quick response; I asked as I had a heck of a time getting the fan clutch off of the old water pump; is this normal?

Garth, did you loosen the alternator belt? If not it will add undue torque to that side.

I had all the belts off when I took the fan off; thanks.

Garth,,, If things hadnt been apart for awhile rust will cause the problem you describe. If there is even paint on the snout you will have a problem on occasion.........Bill S

Thanks for the response; when I install the new water pump should I put something on the pump shaft where it enters the fan hub? Antiseize?
