Fuel Filter

I just purchased a new GF-90 fuel filter for my 1964 365 hp car. I noticed in the Judging guide it said that either the black or silver is correct. Which one is? also after installing it, the carburetor was starved for fuel. could this be that it was a bad filter? Or do I have to adjust the carburetor as well?

i prefer silver. i've never had a nos or nors gf90 act as if the filter were blocking flow of fuel. was it a new one or a used one spiffy'd up? did you install it backwards? arrow indicates direction of flow. good luck, mike

A little more background, was the car running well and the only thing changed the filter? If so, check the pressure on the pump side and if good, check pressure on the carb side, if not, check for fuel to the pump and/or replace the pump. If carb side pressure is good, look for a restriction in the rubber line from the filter to the carb. Have you checked the fuel bowls via the sight plugs to make sure lack of fuel is your problem?

Carb & fuel pump have just been rebuilt. Car was running fine before we changed the fuel filter. I have not checked any fuel pressures. I will thanks

Sam, So often when a filter is changed somehow dirt or metal fillings get into the carb or FI and things go to pot after that. Also if you used teflon tape and it washed off that could cause serious problems. Pipe dope or permatex improperly used could cause your problem. You might one to take the carb off and take the top off and peek inside to see what happened. Maybe some dirt got under the needle&seat also. This could definitely be an issue. John
