Chuck, here's one from my 66. Similar ridge but there is no pat # on the clip. Also noticed that yours has what looks like 3/4" depressions near each end of the frame that are not on mine. The rivet measures aprox .210". I don't know for sure if this is actually an original from a 66. Probably just a nice used one that I installed when I bought the car 23 years ago.

Drs. Chuck & Michael, Oops. only one dr. Nice pics you posted of cheep frames. I have to take a second gander at my mid 63 but I do believe your frames are identical to the ones on my car. Michael, your friend Gregory (no relative) would ding all you guys. I lost 2 points on frames similar to all of yours. Meanwhile once the things are installed no one can see patent numbers on them.Nice rivets though. I have read for many years as all of you have that the rivets were not stainless. Wouldn't make sense to put a SS rivet on a SS frame. Go figure some of this stuff. Thanks for the nice pics though. I guess we will never know about the true story of Atwood's, frames, and other trivia. Have a long list of utter qts but gotta give you all a much deserved break.
Don't forget free drinks at Knoxville. Bring propane please for my heaters. Little green bottles as I understand it's cold there also. Pittsburgh area has been bbrrrrr. This morning I had to scrape the ice off to go to a Pittsburgh Chapter meet. We were trying to learn how to judge clear coat. Wasn't easy. Have a lot to learn. Learned best way is to not to use it at all and stick with lacquer. Less dings for sure. But can't tell people that and I won't from here on in as they don't listen anyhow. Let em use the shiny stuff. John

                  John,

Yes, the frames that Chuck and I posted are just slightly different but probably of the same general design/era. I have a few 63's that are still up in the frozen north but I won't see these again until spring. When I get one of the 63 cars down here, I'll post a few pic's of the frames.

I will continue to use lacquer paint as long as lacquer paint is available, and it is, from what I understand. There really isn't anything wrong with it. The problems from years ago were caused mostly by the primers of the time. Todays much improved primers pretty much eliminate all of that. I won't even discuss BC/CC paint for an old Corvette.

                      Phil,

Someone emailed and mentioned the same about some of the mixing colors no longer being available. I suppose that's going to complicate the issue. There must be some source for these colors. I'm going to check.
