    Radiator cap

I came across a radiator cap in one of my excursions to salvage yards. It has an R-9 stamped on the left ear and appears to be nothing on the right ear. It has a large round head brass rivet. On the first recess in the center it is stamped 'S. M. CO. PAT. NO. 2.582.209'. What application(s)?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott -

The "S.M. Co." is Stant Manufacturing - don't know if GM used Stant radiator caps (instead of AC) as production-line parts or not; Joe probably will, though.

      John and Scott----

I don't know of any Chevrolet application which used a Stant-manufactured radiator cap during the 60's, 70's and 80's. There may have been some, but I'm not aware of any.

Stant did manufacture many fuel and oil caps, but few, if any, radiator caps.

It's different today, though. I think that Stant is now a major supplier to GM for radiator caps, PRODUCTION and SERVICE. I don't know that DELPHI, which owns and operates all of the old AC manufacturing operations, even produces radiator caps anymore.

The last radiator cap I got for my Caprice driver came in a Delphi box and was marked "made in India." I doubt it was made by Delphi.

No, I did search a while back and found the company in India that makes them for Delphi.
