    Carburetor Identification

Can someone please tell me the specific application for a Rochester Quadrajet # stamped 07029207 3412 on the driver side rear of the center portion of the carb? (I was not aware that Rochester numbers began with a zero.) It also has another number stamped on the front of it, 7043925.
    Thank you,
    Kurt # 26406

7029207 is listed as a 69-350hp 4 speed the date 341-2 could be a service replacement.

      Re: Carburetor Identification

      Lyle,
      Thank you for the response.
Can you educate me on why this carb has two numbers in the 70 series, one starting with 70 (7043925) and the other with 070 (07029207.
I am not accustomed to seeing a '0' as the first digit on carburetors.
      Thanks for any info,
      Kurt

        Kurt,

0 numbers are usually service replacements.

GM #7029207 is, indeed, the carburetor originally used for 1969 Corvettes with L-46. However, this carburetor later became the GM/Delco SERVICE carburetor for most 1968-69 Q-Jet applications, Corvette and otherwise. Consequently, a LOT of these carburetors were manufactured right up into the late 90's. It's a very common carburetor number to find.

The "0" prefix began after GM went to an 8 digit part numbering system about 1978. So, that probably means that the "3412" date code denotes the 341st day of 1982 or the 341st day of 1992. Since no original application for the 7029207 carburetor occurred after the change to the 8 digit part numbering system, that means that, by definition, all 7029207 carbs with a "0" prefix are SERVICE carburetors.

I don't know what the 7043925 number refers to. Most likely, it's the GM internal part number for some component or casting used on this carb.

                Joe,

Do you think the "0" started as late as 1978? The "1" prefix for installed carbs began in MY 1976, so I was 85% sure that's when the "0" prefix also started then for service carbs.

Yes, for Rochester part numbers, the 8 digit system started in about 1974. I suppose this was because of the huge number of part numbers that Rochester "consumed". I was thinking in terms of Chevrolet part numbers in my previous response (which, of course, does not apply in the case of the carburetors). For Chevrolet part numbers, the 8 digit system began about 1978.
