When I removed the push-in plug from my 64 327/300, the plastic crumbled half way back around the terminal blades rendering it useless. Guess old age caught up, also these seem thinner walled than most other connectors. Question is, if I can locate another connector, can I remove/replace the plastic portion only ? Seems I should be able to pry open the terminals, install new and recrimp without too much fuss. Has anyone done this ? Thanks, Jim

Re: C2 Alternator Harness Plug
Jim,
You should be able to do this.
do not remove or cut wires. The spade on the wire is normally held into the connector by a section of the spade being bent away from spade. When one pushes it into the back of connector it will snap in and the bent area will not allow one to pull back out. To remove the spade end push a small screw driver into the front of the connector flatting the bent area on the spade back to flat.
Hope I have not confused you.
Good Luck.- Top

Re: C2 Alternator Harness Plug
Thanks Alan, I think I follow that; meaning I dont have to uncrimp the wires from the spades. And if I just peal away the remaining brittle plastic, all I need to do is push the spade as is into the new connector and volia (sp). I should have been more carefull with this delicate part.- Top

Re: C2 Alternator Harness Plug
That's it.
Finding a new connector is another project. Most of the wire harness people do not like to sell parts. Try .riwire.com they do carry parts. The Double GM Connector Block (broken part) I got from them is not the one you want, it has the two teriminals at a right angle to each other. Call them, or do some web searches.

Re: C2 Alternator Harness Plug
snap-on sells a pack of 6 tools that enable one to remove the spades from the various style plastic plugs. plastic plugs are out there in your favorite junkyards under the hoods of early 60's pontiacs, olds, buick etc. good luck. mike- Top

Re: Common part...
Houston may be the National Auto Junkyard Capitol, but for late model generic cars! A couple weeks ago, I stopped at 12 yards in a row along FM249 and not a single one had a mid 60's alternator and most laughed that I was even looking. I'm sure the "right" yard is available in Houston but I haven't found it!- Top
