    Speedometer gear

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the correct speedometer gear is for a 1967 M-20 3.70 rear end? Thanks.

    Jeff-----

Strange that you should ask; I just answered two VERY COMPLICATED speedometer gear questions on the corvetteforums board, one involving a 1965 with 3.70 gears and another involving a 1977 which is equipped with a 1968 Muncie M-20 trans. You might want to refer to those responses for additional relative information.

However, I'll synopsize here: assuming that your transmission is internally configured as original, and assuming that your car is an ORIGINAL 3.70:1(which affects the speedometer DRIVE gear originally installed in your transmission), and assuming that you are using tires which are very close to the diameter of your car's original 7.75X15 tires (diameter= 27.61"), the correct speedometer DRIVEN gear for your car is a green, 22 tooth gear of GM #3860345.

If the above conditions are NOT THE CASE or if there is UNCERTAINTY about the conditions, ALL BETS ARE OFF.
