The original heads from my '56,which are correct, are in really terrible shape. They are all there, but, very rusty, and, one valve is sticking 2 inches above the seat with a solid column of rust from the seat to the valve. I took them to my machinist and head guy and he said "not worth messing with!!!" He obviously has never searched for the correct power pak heads for a 210, 265 C.I. small block. I would like to know if anyone has an opinion about saving these heads. Another friend of mine says his head guy can do miracles......any thoughts or experiences to pass along? Thanks.

Re: Correct '56 heads for Vette!
I think heads can generally be saved. For most non-collector cars, it is probably cheaper to buy a replacement head. But if you want to keep your original head, you can get it fixed for a reasonable price.
There is an excellent head repair shop in Oakland California. American Cylinder Head. Ask for Einer Elbeck. Others on this forum recommended him, so I asked Einer to restore my 241 head for my 54 Corvette. Fantastic job. Very reasonably priced too - cheap actually compared to the value of the 241 head. I bet you can repair your head for much less than it would cost to buy a ready to bolt on head correct for your 56.
Hope this helps,
