Can anyone tell me when the oil pan with the riveted holder for the oil stick tube was changed to the newer version where the oil dipstick tube goes into the engine block? Noland Adams shows both versions for the 1957.

If Noland shows both versions for 1957, then I think that's incorrect. The pan mounted and block mounted diptsick configurations were used for 1956. For that year, early cars used the pan mounted dipstick and later cars used the block mounted dipstick. The pan-mounted dipstick had the dipstick on the RIGHT side. The block mounted dipstick was on the LEFT side. Beginning in later 1956 when Corvette small blocks went to the block-mounted dipstick, they remained this way through later 1979 when the dipstick finally returned to the right side again (although it was block mounted).In Appreciation of John Hinckley -
