    1965 Hardtop

I am helping assemble a 1965 hardtop for a roadster. Have all of the interior and exterior pieces painted and chromed. 2 questions:

    1. Does anyone know who sells a hardtop headliner for the 65 hardtop? I have the material, but do not quite undertsand how the material is secured in place on the hardtop before the finishing piences are screwed in place... I am assuming that the material is attached to a molded insert that fits in place and then is held by the finishing trim...Any advice is appreciated.

    2. Where can I buy the weatherstriping that is needed for this same 65 hardtop? I understand that the 65 hardtop is different from other C-2 tops. Input is appreciated...Thanks.

    Sal, try:

Also, as a putty sealer use a Weatherstripp Caulking called "Mortite". It's gray in color, the number on the box is B2 it's about $5.00 for a 19ox box. You can get it at Lowe's.

That's a 19 oz box. Also, the headliner was not originally glues to keep it in place while assembling, at least on a 63. The restorer's will apply a little in the center while putting it back together.

Thanks Harry for the info and the webpage suggestion.

Does the headliner material just get glued to the fiberglas top or does it get glued to a cardboard or pressed-board insert that is molded to fit the top? It seems like the material will sag without some kind of form to shape it....

Sounds like there's a disconnect here... The headliner used on '63-65 hardtops was unique and, to my knowledge, it's NOT being reproduced.

It was die cut, press molded, textured cardboard that held its own weight and didn't need to be 'affixed' to the fiberglass roof panel. What's commonly sold is the '66-67 version of the headliner that's foam backed vinyl. It's generally listed as being for ALL mid-year cars, since it's downward compatible (fits but is NOT factory concours correct). That one you have to glue to the roof panel for it to hold its position without sagging...

Thanks for all of the feedback....the feedback is helpful as the assembly manual does not provide this level of detail....Hopefully, we can make the headliner smooth along the underbody of the roof panel....this will be a challenge!

Sal, I spoke with Ted from Auto Entec at Carlisle, as I recall from the conversation, the 63/64 that he makes is cardboard maybe the 65 and the 66/67 is vinyl. Please contact him to verify.

                Jack,

I'm not ready to restore my 1965 hardtop yet, but when I am, I will possibly use the 1963-65 version sold here. Will do plenty research first, but LICS does differentiate between 63-65 and 66-67.
