I just got back my rechromed bumpers for my 67 B/B coupe. I won't be installing for another month as the car is still going through restoration. Is there any reason chevy never installed any gasket material or something between the fiber glass areas where the bumper brackets attach w/through bolts to help cushion the direct contact of the bumper bracket and fiber glass areas where your paint is. Or am i wrong. I noted this when I removed the bumpers that I had direct bracket metal to glass mating surfaces and nothing in between. I couldn't remember seeing any gaskets or cushioning materials for these areas on my 64 back in the early 70s. Just a thought. Maybe someone out there has come across this idea before. I don't see anything in any of my parts books to protect the paint& glass from the bracket contact areas once I reinstall.Thanks. Happy Easter,GRR#33570

Re: 63-67 bumpers question.
Hi Gr:
There has never been any isolation material used in this position, to the best of my knowledge, although it seems a good idea to me and I can't imagine that such an insulator would cause anything detrimental to any of the components involved. I would try to use a cushioning material that was incapable of holding moisture to protect the chrome from rusting, you might consider a thin , soft nylon or Delrin.
Best of luck and a Happy Easter.

Re: 63-67 bumpers question.
Mr. Rogers, the '67 AIM manual does not specify any gasket material for the bumpers to fit in between the body. I have never seen any that did. It would be just a factory expense that no one would notice. Just an observation. Patrick- Top

Re: 63-67 bumpers question.
Hi Gr. I thought about the same thing years ago and added a small piece of rubber innertube between the bumper and the front quarter panel where the bumper meets the fiberglass. I have been to several vette shows (ie. Ecklers for one) where the GM restored midyear was shown and believe it or not, they have a black gasket between the bumper and the fiberglass on the front, however I agree with everyone, that they did not come from the factory with gaskets. Just my 2 cents worth. Floyd- Top

Re: 63-67 bumpers question.
If you install the bumpers carfully I don't think they will mar the paint, at least not in an area that you can see with the bumper installed and this area was not buffed at the plant, but the biggest problem is the forward most mounting bolt on the rear bumper, which does not have a bracket to the frame. At this location it just bolts to the fiberglass, so eventually a crack develops in the mounting boss. I think the only way to mitigate this problem is to torque this bolt last and use less than the specified torque.
