I recently purchased a new exhaust for my 54 restoration project. It does not even come close to fitting. The corvette supply company who sold me the system claims that all new exhaust systems have to be bent to fit each individual car. Anyone have any past experience with this problem?

Re: 54 exhaust
most c-1's i've re-exhausted have fit without any trips to the local sheep shop for bending. i've always had luck with corvette central'systems. who'd ya get yours from? will they take it back? if not, you're off to the tubing bender. good luck, mike- Top

Re: 54 exhaust
I purchased exhaust systems for my 54 and 59 from Corvette Central. I had the local muffler shop put on the system for my 59. Fit perfectly. The owner of the shop wanted to know where the system came from - he said it was one of the best fitting systems he has seen for a classic car. No rattles whatsoever. My only complaint - the exhaust pipe is about an inch too long at the very back in. Someday I will take a hacksaw and fix it. But I have seen other C1's the same way, so I figure they have the same Corvette Central system.
I installed the 54 exhaust system myself (using a Kwiklift for access under the car). Not overly hard to do. Takes a bit of time getting the long exhaust tips adjusted just right. But everything fits pretty well. I see one area where the pipe is hitting the frame, but that might be the age of my hangers.
All in all, I am 100% satisfied with Corvette Central for both my 54 and 59 systems.- Top

Re: 54 exhaust
I got the system from Corvette Central. They told me all 54's were hand made and each exhaust system was custom made. And the moon is made of cheese.- Top
