    Jim-----

It depends what you mean by "suitable for judging". Any exhaust system is "suitable" for judging, but some might receive a hefty deduction based upon divergence from original configuration. There is NO exhaust system available on the market today that is exactly like the originals in all aspects of configuration. Even GM SERVICE exhaust systems, when available, were not configured like the original PRODUCTION system (except for N-11 which were the same as PRODUCTION). Supposedly, there is a correct system coming onto the market. I've yet to see it. Right now, I'd say that a system manufactured by Allen's Corvette Exhaust and available through many of their dealers as well as directly from them, is the closest you're going to find.

HI Joe, As you previously stated Allen's mufflers are the closest to originals as they don't have any embossed numbers and lettering like NOSR GM, etc. Even the NOS N-11 has the embossed numbers, etc. The GM service replacement mufflers have two brackets on them. One of which you can cut off. But still they are factory correct. Nice pic of you at Carlisle. John D

        John------

Many GM SERVICE muffler assemblies have dual brackets (i.e. for 63-67 and 68-72 applications). However, not all do. Generally, the ones that do are the 1968-released 2-1/2" SERVICE muffler assemblies for standard exhaust. The 63-67 and 69-72 2" mufflers did not have dual brackets. At least, I've never seen an example that did have dual brackets. Also, the 63-67 N-11 muffler/pipe assemblies did not have dual brackets since the only application that they were ever catalogued for used the 63-67 bracket. As far as I know, the 1968-only N-11 assemblies had only the 68-72 style bracket.

Purportedly, there were some of these N-11 assemblies that had dual brackets. However, I've never seen a KNOWN-GM example with dual brackets.

Joe, I agree with you. It was nice to see that you and Jorjorian agreed with each other recently. My set of NOS Off road exhaust for midyear do not have dual muffler brackets. But a set of 2-1/2 GM replacement mufflers bought in 1979 or so have dual brackets. Thanks, John
