Get a 1955 cheap, while you still can

    Sold Price: $346,500

    Event Name: Bloomington Gold
    Auction Company: Mecum Auctions
    Condition Rating: 1

Condition Description: 265/195, 4-bbl, auto. Close to perfect, though the passenger door appears to fit a bit wide at bottom. Bloomington Gold, NCRS Top Flight, Vettefest Triple Crown. A top car.

Market Opinion: Think this is huge money? Wait a few years and watch it again. If I wanted an early Corvette, the 1955 V8 would be the one for me. And this would be the exact car I'd choose.

That makes me feel better that I had to buy and drive this OLD Corvette when years ago those newer C1's were out of my price range .

Too many memories of past bad choices relative to today's market.
Now how am I going to forget that original white 54 that was offered to me for $900 back in 1970? Or the 53 that a car lot on my corner sprayed blue metalflake and sold for about $1,300.

I bought mine back in the early 80's for $1400.00, the guy I bought it from needed plane fare to LA... Granted mine is just a driver, but I could part it out for 20 times what I paid for it. Worst yet, I had no idea what I was buying, I just wanted an old Vette I did not want to hassle body rust living in Hawaii.... I had a guy offer to trade me a brand new Mercedes 450 SL for my basket case at the time, I passed on his offer, I'm glad I did now.

Or that beautiful Fawn Beige/Beige '62 FUELIE that I could have owned for $1750. in 1972!! The guy was starting college in the fall and needed the money. Oh well.

You're all gonna have to to better...

In 72-74 There was a junkyard in NJ which had a 1954 parked by the office, complete driveable car, including original radio, aftermarket hardtop, even the wheelcovers. had a V8/4-sp cleanly installed, but otherwise very original. Sat there over 2 years with "$400" on the windshield. Even accounting for inflation that's only about $1500.
