    non-corvette question

anybody out there have experience with Remote power brake boosters? Ole Willy, without power brake booster(no room on firewall to mount one), takes way too much pedal pressure to halt the ole boy. thanks, mike

Most I've seen were for a single line only, not dual as a split master cylinder. Some of the rod shops may make one. Look at 55-57 T-birds.

have you considered the Hydra-boost system

It was used by Cadillac in the 1980's or so for the diesel systems, mounts on the firewall between the brake pedal and the master cylinder but is MUCH smaller than a vacuum operated booster and is powered by the power steering pump. They are now being sold by some of the repro/aftermarket brake vendors (the guys with disc brake upgrade kits for Chevelles, etc).

      Good luck,
      Mark

Doc, ya would be better off with the hydraboost system. Easy to install (a bracket or two and some hoses) even for a "zit doc".

55 to 57 T=Bird booster you can add any where, because my 55 Corvette pulls a trailer I added it under the left fender splash pane.Works great!

(do you have the approximate dimensions) Sorry no but it not a large unit. Look under 55-56-57 T-Bird in e-bay. My 55 will stop so fast and easy , just like a power brake 55 Chevy. When it was judged for first flight they dint even see it till they asked why I had a vacumm line comeing from back of the Carb.

                  Mike wrote me asking how??
You need a 55-56 or 57 power booster, check valve, some brake line and rubber hose. Decide where you wont to put it or hid it and make a bracket to mount it. That's it! If you can go see a T-Bird you'll realize the unit goes between your master brake cylinder and the brake line going to the brakes. When you push on the brake pedal the booster increases the fluid pressure (which is AIR "power brakes") It's so simple to hide any where and keep your original parts but for the line between the MC and the lines. These guys that pay 2K and remove all those original parts are Modified vetts, OK disk brakes are better and all but if your trying to keep the look of originality this is the ticket. And you don't have a funny looking master brake and booster replacing the original master brake cylinder under the hood, if you've ever driven an older car haveing power brakes which also have your brake lining that's how they will feel .
