    1967 Corvette 427/435 Engine Pad

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if this stamping looks original and correct? Does anyone have a picture of their stamping of a '67 427/435 near this serial number and would you be willing to share it with me? I am not sure about the "J" in the JE and I am not sure the 2 is correct in the VIN portion. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Rick

need to carefully strip off the paint

The broach marks will tell much more of the story. In addition, check the casting number too as I think some 1969 396's also used the JE code.

Re: need to carefully strip off the paint

I think anybody selling a 67 L71 (435 hp) car as an original engine deal likely knows enough to clean the stamp pad, as it will be a deeply examined item - so much so that I now wonder a bit when I see a freshly painted pad on such cars. No offense to those with painted pads.

It looks good to me, however I agree, the paint should be stripped using brake cleaner or paint thinner / stripper. The "Broach" marks will tell a lot more.

Al Grenning will be able to tell for sure.

        Good Luck,

        Steve

I hope this image helps. This is from an unrestored 67 435HP engine.
