    1968 Emmissions Label

My 68 with 327 cubic inch/ 350 horsepower small block (L79) should have an emmissions label containing the timing and the idle speed mounted on the driver side firewall near the hood alignment pin.
Can someone please tell me what the part number is for this label and what timing and idle speed should be printed on this label.
There should also be a single letter to the right of the Chevrolet emblem.
Can you please tell me what this letter should be.
    The label measured 6 1/4 x 1 1/4
    Thank you for any help.

    Kurt:

The emission certification for your 68 carried the broadcast code of U and either a part number 3932352 or 3932439. The first design had a 4 degree BTDC while 2nd design (3932439) printed an 8 degree BTDC. Both were used with the L79 HT engine suffix code.

I had a picture of it at one time but believe I lost it in the computer crash of 05.

      Tom,
      Thank you for the information.
In your opinion, would these same lables be used with the HP engine suffix code?

        Re: 1968 Emmissions Label

Kurt my 68's original label is still attached. Feb build 68 and for L79. It shows 4 degrees BTC, not BTDC, and 750 RPM, and also vacuum advance line plugged. I would have to look again, but the letter M is on my label and from what I can tell of the number on my label it is 397749, or at least this is what I make it out to be, the label is a little wrinkled in this area. Have a number painted below the label, it is in red and is 72.

          Jim,
          Thanks for the reply.
I don't remember the options on your car. Do you have Power stering, power brakes, and A/C?
          What is your engine suffix
          HT or HP ?
          Thanks

            Jim:

I suspect your 68 has been through the judging campaign so I'm curious if judges found conflict between your original label and the tech manual. It shows the "M" broadcast code with 3927749 number as installed on the 427/435 and 427/400 manual tranny applications.

              Re: Jim & L79 application

Kurt my 68 is a 327/350 with HT suffix, M21, 3:70 positraction, and the POP reflects this as well as the dealer paper work. No power steering, no power brakes, or air conditioning.

Tom very interesting about my 68's label being for the 427/435 and 427/400 manual tranmission. Have not had any NCRS event judging. It is the real original label that came on the car and the original 327/350 is still bolted in and has never been out of the car.

And I believe you...factory probably did not have the label in stock and simply grapped one for a four-speed. Can you post or send a pic?

                    ...my original 43K mile '68, which is an L-79 4spd car too without A/C, p.s. & p.b, has the "439" & "U" label.
