    C2 Battery Meter Removal

Can the battery meter(ammeter) be removed without removing the instrument cluster?

Yes, be flexible, get used to laying on your back under the dash and it can be done.

Thanks. Now how do I do it? It appears their is one small screw holding some type of cover plate. Does this plate get removed and the battery meter then gets removed?

The plate retains both gauges and they remove as a unit. Disconnect the lamp socket(s) and the small screw (look close, there may be one at the top also, ---(been a while) and the plate with the gauges attached will come out. the gauges are actually attached to the plate, it all is obvious once they are out. I have done it several times, just takes some patience.

I think the screw at the top of the housing for both the ammeter and gas gage is the bugger to get to and get out. It's twice as hard to get back in.

To ease the pain on your back, you might want to remove the driver's seat.

              Come to think of it

I think there is 3 screws to be removed for the double gage housings, as well as retaining tabs to be bent up on the ends of the gage housing. The tabs break very easily. If you are doing this for the first time, I think I'd recommend pulling the cluster.
