As a new owner of a 69 L36(427/390hp) vette and a new NCRS member I really enjoyed my first visit to Carlisle. Just walking around Sat and Sun gave me a better perspective on prices/available items etc. I went hoping to find the correct carb which those on this site helped me to identify (7029215) with a build date before Feb 69. I looked at a lot of Rochesters but only found one that was correct # and had an 020 build date. However, the guy only sold them restored meaning that he would rebuild and restore once I committed to purchase. I was more than a little surpised that the price was $1040. Being new to all this I had no way of knowing if this was a fair price and decided to pass. I saw a lot of unrestored cores in the $100-250, but have no idea what it will run to get one of these rebuilt, much less restored. I have the guys card and can contact/purchase if it is still available. Just looking for some honest advice if this is a reasonable price. I must admit he had an example of this work and it looked very nice.

Re: 69 Big Block Carb
Dwayne,
What's the guys name? Also, anything original & correctly dated as it refers
to HP or SHP components is going to be expensive. This is just a fact of life
these days.
The unrestored cores in the $100 to $250 range were most likely not cores of
this nature, or they were service dates. It is quite rare to find a production
dated '215 core for less than $500 or so. Ebay is proof of that !
The 7029215 is the manual transmission carb and that makes it more expensive
based on the current market. You get a double-whammie on that one. Actually,
you get a triple-whammie because the '215 carb was also used on the L/34 &
L/35 Camaro's & Chevelles and the L/35 Nova. You know what those cars are
doing today in terms of value, so the carb prices go along for the ride.
I don't want to make you sad, but I got a nearly unused '215 carb @ Carlisle
years ago for $100.00 or so. The original owner pulled it off his Vette two
weeks after he bought the car in favor of a Holley replacement. He had lugged
that carb. to Carlisle for years without so much as a bite. I just happened to
be walking by when he put the box on the table. Right place / right time.....
Don't expect to get that lucky. I just drove under a rainbow or something that day.
