    Neighborhood Car Show

Brought my '59 and also a '23 Track T Roadster that is a friend of the familys.

Lots of people raved over the Vette which made me feel good, but I still didn't win anything. There are a lot of heavy hitter car guys in my neighborhood. The People's Choice award went to a '32 Packard that just came back from winning best in class at Pebble Beach.

Interestingly, a lady I talked with said her dad had invented the pop up headlight and he held the most patents at Pontiac. I think the name was Buchwald. Don't know if she was telling the truth, but she didn't have any reason to lie. She wan't bragging or anything.

A big Corvette collector brought a newly aquired Garcia IMSA race car. I didn't get a picture of it, but I think this may be it.

It's very similar, anyway. Boy was it loud as hell. Louder that the Track Roadster which I almost need ear plugs to drive.

My youngest has a beautiful smile, but if I tell her to smile, this is what I get.

I found a glimpse of the Garcia Vette in this picture. For those of you with more delicate sensibilities, I apologize for the full frontal shot of a German car.

          Dave

Thanks for the great pictures. I needed them today as it has been raining like a tall cow peeing on a flat rock all day here. There's only so much you can do inside!

The way you show the hard top still bolted to the soft top is the way I showed my 57 Corvette PT option off also having the soft top assy haft way up too,for more then 30 years , you are the second person I've seen do it the same way. It blows people away and makes NCRS guys crazy.Wonderfull looking girls.

Yes I first saw that done in the 60's when used car lot people did it to get attention, same with the 57 Ford hard top retractable hanging in the air. I'm thinking of a way to do it with my 55 bubble top?

                  Sander,

You need something better than that old block of wood to prop up the top. I just went to the local hardware store and bought a wood dowel, a cheap can of red spray paint (which happens to match the interior surprisingly well), and a couple black plastic end caps. The whole deal cost under $5. And aside from the drying time, it took about 10 minutes to put together.

Heck, maybe I could market these things.

Dave, not to be a "stick" in the mud, but, that way of displaying the hardtop looks to me like it would put a LOT of strain on the tonneau hinges and the fiberglass! There is the possibility of cracking and crazing of the 'glass. Just my 2 cents as I wouldn't want to see any damage to the car for a "trick" display.

Don, I'm just doing it for utility purposes like they did back in '59. I keep my picnic supplies and a change of clothes back there.

In all seriousness though, I've only done this twice and I understand there may be some risk to propping the top up like that, but I'm willing to take it in order to see and hear people's reaction when they approach the car. Everybody loves it. Although I probably won't try it at an NCRS event.
