Is it possible for a Mid Year Corvette painted in base coat/clear coat to be awarded the NCRS Duntov award??

Re: NCRS Duntov Award.
I would think it's theoretically possible, but the car would have to be really good to survive an 85-point paint deduction; Duntov requires 97% (with no driving points), so it could only have a total of 135 points deducted for the whole car and still make the 97%. That assumes a total deduction for Body Paint, which may or may not occur, depending on how the car "appears".- Top

Re: NCRS Duntov Award.
Rick, as John pointed out "appears to be lacquer". Brief explanation:
- nice crisp, sharp and deep reflections
- no paint build up around trunk lip (C1), hood lip and door jams
Suggest putting a known lacquer paint car next to a normal base/clear car and you can easily spot the differences. Base/clear can be done so that you can't tell it apart from lacquer.
However, if the paint's really nice you probably would receive a 20% over restoration deduction if you can't tell it's not lacquer.

Re: NCRS Duntov Award.
Rick there have been several that have made the award with B/CC paint, starting at least back to 1988 (my car that year was B/CC) if not earlier. The amount of work to make the cars pass is tremendous, and I am not sure that you could do it with all colors, but it can be done. There are numerous threads here telling how to paint the cars. If you can get to one of Tom Ames paint seminars at a meet, he gives a lot of good pointers.Dick Whittington- Top
