C-5 engine block VIN location...

I've looked at the usual location on the pad area on the passenger side, can't see any VIN # on the block. Checked the owners manual, it says the VIN is on top of the dash just below the windshield.

Where is the VIN # on the engine? Thanks, PT

Patrick the Engine VIN location can be found in the service manual section 0A-2. It shows it on the Drivers side, looking at the engine from the drivers side, lower right rear, just above the oil pan.

Thanks Art, I never would have guessed that it would located down by the oil pan. GM probably thought it would be too easy to stamp it up on top of the block, where it could easily be read. PT

Hi Patrick...LS2 (C6) is also in the same location. These days, the build info is laser engraved...no more "stamps".

I watched the process at Bowling Green...the operator scanned a bar code on the job document, and scanned another on the engine that was set up at the station...I believe the engine was still setting in its carrier. The engraving machine set up the info from the barcodes, and bzzzzt, it was done. I suppose the days of strike-overs and grind-offs are gone forever. Progress, you know.
