My lead hammer for my knock offs is need of repair. I have moved all the lead that was outside of the metal holder. What can I use around the metal holder when I heat the lead. Is there a ring compressor that is small enough or is there something else I should use?

Slip a 2" exhaust donut over the head and melt the
Lead into it.Comment

One of our chapter founders put on a tech session 2-years back on just this subject (restoring original lead hammers). The trick he used was SIMPLE...he found and cut an aluminum orange juice concentrate can of matching ID to use as a casting 'funnel' to pour fresh lead into. Results were EXCELLENT!Comment

Wasn't there an article in The Restorer a number of years ago about this very same problem? Do you have The Restorer on CD or any old copies of it? It seems to me the article was complete with descripitons and photos.
